Our three must-haves styles roundup will steer you in the right direction and prep you for a trendy, early Fall wardrobe.
The Wide Leg Chino
The ‘90s are back with a vengeance! From acid wash denim to fanny-packs we have seen a great wave of these throwback garments everywhere but none has meant more to men, myself including, than the wide leg chino. Once considered the “rebirth of bell bottoms” these pants are the most versatle essentials any man can own.
From the workplace to the runway, these separates have experienced a modern revamping: think slimmer fits, durable fabrications (depending on the season as we saw lighter materials for the Summer) and in an array of fits from casual to dressy. We even saw them on the runway and in mid-level retailers like COS, Zara and Japanese favorite UNIQLO. Easy to transition between work and play make sure you select a few pairs before they are no longer in vogue.
The Accessory: The Statement Scarf
Fairly different from the “summer scarf,” the Statement Scarf is the prefect accessory for the cooler months. Somewhere between a heavy wool neck wrap and a tie, this piece is bold, usually oversized and fitted with huge stripes, bright hues to compliment your every outfit and mood.
This season JW Anderson for Uniqlo offers larger-than-life-PostModern-Ivy League pieces that are weak constructed and equipped with Uniqlo's "Heattech" fabric for those sub-zero days. From Givenchy to Gap x GQ's United Arrows line, there is not excuse why you cannot try this trend out and see if you're about that eccentric life.
The Knit: Oversized Sweater + Outerwear
Labeled as the "Anti-fit," oversized clothing has slowly crept into the menswear arena ever since the extreme slim trend became too much to wear. we have witnessed knitwear (cardigans, crewnecks, v-necks) evolve into more of a fuller athletic silhouette yet aesthetically appealing to the eye. Taking inspiration from street style craze, these pieces fall below the waist, with slightly longer sleeves and are paired with wide leg trousers and slim fit denim.
Not to be left, outerwear designers have joined the #oversizedgang as well. Think about it: why wear a fitted topcoat or parka over a voluminous cardigan or crew neck sweater? It may seen non-traditional in theory but aren't traditions meant to be broken? Thanks to designers like Coach, H&M and Brioni, longer coats with slouchier fits have never been more popular than now.
