Two ways to shave textured hair: a clear, clean shave, or a dry shave done right

If you have a 4C coil or a tight wave, you already know the feeling: you shave, you look close, then the neck or jaw starts to look a little rough by the next day. Some guys switch to an electric shaver and stay there. That is a fair choice. But you can get a close, clean wet shave too. It starts with what goes on your skin before the blade.

Pick one path and stick with it for a few weeks.

Easy Primer Skin and Beard Oil

Path 1: The wet shave, the FBG way

Use this if you want the close razor finish and a clean line.

  • Prep with Easy Primer Skin & Beard Oil. A light blend of plant oils. It softens the hair and gives the blade a smooth path, without a greasy finish.
  • Shave with Hydro-Glaze Cooling Aloe Shave Gel. A clear, low-to-no-foam gel with aloe and witch hazel, so you can see your skin and the line you are cutting.
  • Go with the grain first. One pass. Rinse the blade between passes.
  • Stop when it looks clean. Going over the same patch again is where irritation starts.
  • Finish with Bump Clear. Alcohol-free. Apply after the shave while skin is still damp.

Path 2: The dry shave, done right

Use this if the blade has not worked for you, or you want a quick shave.

  • Shave dry with an electric shaver on clean, dry skin.
  • Use Bump Clear only after the shave. Alcohol-free. Keep the routine simple so you can tell what is working.
  • Keep your hands off the area. Picking at it is how small spots become bigger ones.

The natural oils, and what each one does for the feel of your skin

Easy Primer Skin & Beard Oil

  • Avocado oil: smooths and softens the hair and skin.
  • Olive oil: lubricates and keeps skin hydrated.
  • Grapeseed oil: a light finish that feels firm and calm before the blade.
  • Soybean oil: adds slip and softness to the prep.

Hydro-Glaze Cooling Aloe Shave Gel

  • Aloe vera gel: moisturizes and gives a cool, fresh feel.
  • Witch hazel extract: a clean, refreshing finish on the skin.
  • Glycerin: keeps the gel slick so the blade glides.
  • Menthol: the cooling sensation on the skin.

Bump Clear

Alcohol-free aftercare for the skin after the shave.

What to avoid

  • Shaving against the grain every time, or pressing harder to get closer.
  • Going back over the same spot again and again.
  • Using a dull blade. Change it before it drags.

When to see someone

If bumps are painful, spreading, or not clearing up, see a dermatologist. That is for someone who can look at your skin, not for a blog post or a product.
